FAO conference on global hunger to launch

More than 820 million people in the world are hungry today and an additional 1.3 billion suffer from moderate food insecurity, meaning they do not have regular access to nutritious food. Alarmingly, for the third straight year those numbers have risen, despite massive global commitments to reduce or end hunger and the harms, such as stunting and perilously low birthweight, associated with it. Livestock-enhanced diets in the first 1,000 days of life: Pathways to better futures in low-income countries

A new report was published this month on the value of ensuring consumption of meat, milk and eggs by infants up to two years of age and by expectant and new mothers in developing countries (the first 1,000 days). The report was published by ILRI and the Chatham House Centre on Global Health Security. Sustainable livestock futures—BMZ, GIZ and ILRI at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture this week

For several days this week (18–20 Jan 2018), several scientific directors and staff of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)—Jimmy Smith, Shirley Tarawali, Dieter Schillinger, Lutz Merbold and Kristina Roesel—will be participating with several ILRI partners in the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), held in Berlin, Germany. This annual German three-day international conference focuses on the future of the global agri-food industry. Now in its tenth year, the GFFA in 2018 is focusing on Shaping the Future of Livestock—Sustainably, Responsibly, Efficiently. Continue reading
