Jimmy Smith, director general of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), gave a keynote presentation at the 16th Asian Australasian Animal Production Congress, held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 10–14 Nov 2014. The overall theme of the congress was ambitious: ‘Sustainable livestock production in the perspective of food security, policy, genetic resources and climate change’. A ‘who’s who’ in livestock research-for-development gathering in Ethiopia
A high-profile two-day conference held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 6–7 Nov 2014, to mark the 40-year anniversary of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) brought together world leaders at the intersection of livestock science and development. This conference, the culmination of a series of events that ILRI organized in different parts of the world in the last quarter of 2014 to mark its 4-decade milestone, gave ILRI an opportunity to acknowledge the many people who have helped build the institute and make it what it is today. On 15 Oct 2014, the day before World Food Day and the awarding of the World Food Prize and at the start of the Borlaug International Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa, a special session on livestock for development was held.
